INDEPTH
To get more of a feel for Mimiru, you have to put yourself in her place. She's only a teenage girl sitting in front of the monitor, watching as this person she's found herself growing close to suffers. When you're online, you can't physically lend someone a shoulder to cry on. No matter how much you put into it, there's bound to be that one thing missing. Sure, Tsukasa can feel what happens to him, but Mimiru can't really understand his situation. She can believe he's telling the truth, and as time goes on, she knows he's truely in 'The World', but it doesn't make it any easier for her to put herself in his place. She's still just that girl staring at the monitor. Knowing that she can't truely help Tsukasa has to kill her, because she's grown so attached to him. That's just another point right there also, what he means to her. It's easy to become very attached to people you know online, even if you've never met them personally. When someone grows on you that much, no matter how much you might tell yourself "it's just online" or "it's just a game", it can't change how they will affect you. These people Mimiru have met in the game become her friends, and being so attached to someone you can't touch, it could kill you. Of course, she could meet with Bear or BT, but meeting Tsukasa seems rather impossible. Mimiru has to be incredibly irritated that she can't do anything to help Tsukasa, and also irritated that he's so important to her. You can see how it affects her quite a few times during the series. Mimiru manages to deal with this conflict, and get on to try to help Tsukasa as much as she possibly can. When she was waiting for Tsukasa to meet her, she didn't even leave the computer once (besides when she left Bear there so she could get tea). She was sitting there for hours, all through the night even. Tsukasa is utterly surprised to find her still there when he does show up, with good reason too. The dedication she shows is truely amazing. It's impossible to really comprehend what was happening to Tsukasa, and for a teenage girl to deal with that, and still show such perserverance, is just plain incredible. Mimiru has the option of continually searching for Tsukasa and trying to help him, or just ignoring the issue, possibly not even logging on. Some people would just leave the computer off, because you would think it's just that easy. Stay offline, don't deal with it. In reality though, guilt would consume her, eat away at her for ignoring the problem and betraying someone she considers a friend. There's really no way Mimiru can fix this problem quickly, she's rather stuck in the situation, just like Tsukasa. So, Mimiru chooses the better path, she helps Tsukasa out whenever she can. Still, that road is just as hard on her. Everyone just think about it, you have those two options, which would you choose? Ignore the problem and leave it at that, just because it was "the easy way out"? Or would you continue to help Tsukasa, even if it meant the emotional attachment would grow stronger, and you'd lose more of yourself to the issue? Consider those options, put yourself in her shoes. Then tell me Mimiru doesn't have extreme emotional and mental strength, pounds of honor, and a huge capacity to love and care for others.
